Getting Rid of Stubborn Belly Fat

What causes belly fat and why do slim people face this problem as well?

Common causes of belly fat include endocrine disorder due to irregular eating and resting habits, frequent consumption of high calorie food and sedentary lifestyle that causes fats to be accumulated at the abdomen.

Belly fat in females is also another indicator of cold uterus. When cold food is consumed and uterus is not warm enough, the body will accumulate fat at the abdomen to protect the uterus, therefore resulting in belly fat in even slim people.

Why do I gain weight from drinking water?

From TCM perspective, weight gain from drinking water is caused by spleen deficiency, kidney edema and liver stagnation which leads to abnormal metabolism. Spleen deficiency causes phlegm-dampness to be accumulated within the body (phlegm is the combination of the body’s phlegm, liquid, interstitial fluid and blood cholesterol, triglyceride and so on) and will contribute to the deficiency of kidney and ultimately causes edema resulting in weight gain.

Any DIY acupoint massage to help reduce belly fat?

TCM treatments for localised weight loss emphasises on “regulating” rather than “reducing”. Regulating flow within meridian will promote Qi and blood flow through the internal organs and prevents stagnation, thus achieving weight loss.

“Dai Mai” acupoint is located along the waist (where you would usually wear a belt) and ensuring flow within “Dai Mai” will result in increased metabolism, regular bowel movements and good complexion. Clench your fists and gently knock “Dai Mai” daily, 100-300 times lasting for around 5 minutes.

Regardless of the type of TCM treatment used for slimming, it is crucial to first understand one’s body constitution and with that, different types of herbs and acupoints will be used in the treatment for the most effective results.
